The story
Bob and Bobbie Gottlieb founded the company in their New York home in 1969, originally calling it “Two Plus Three” in reference to the two parents and three young sons. The early product mix was eclectic — including, at one point, giant inflatables — and the company quickly developed a reputation for trend-spotting that would carry it through five decades of changing tastes.
The company is still family-owned. Bobbie continues to lead the business, joined by her son Tom Gottlieb. Across more than 50 years, Two's Company has expanded from a single line into four distinct divisions, each targeting a different corner of the gift, home, and fashion market.
What they make
The four divisions divide the catalog cleanly. Two's Company is the flagship line — signature gift and home accessories, the kind of cross-category mix that fills a gift shop's tabletop and shelf merchandising. Tozai Home is a higher-end couture line of decorative accessories aimed at interior designers and home boutiques. 2 Chic covers vibrant fashion accessories and styled jewelry. Cupcakes & Cartwheels is the kids and young-at-heart line, weighted toward whimsical toys and accessories.
Across all four, the design language emphasizes trend-relevance and visual personality — the brand's reputation is built on showrooms and trade-show booths that read as well-merchandised, not warehouse-style.
How they sell
Two's Company maintains regular exhibits at Atlanta Market and Dallas Total Home & Gift, and its sales team handles trunk shows and on-site visits with retailers across the country. The company has also extended distribution onto Faire's wholesale platform, but the bulk of its business runs through traditional showroom and rep channels.
The company's reputation among retailers is built as much on operational service as on product — Two's has won industry recognition for shipping practices and customer service.
Why they're worth knowing
For an independent gift retailer, Two's Company is a versatility play. The four divisions let a single buyer source across categories from one rep relationship: a gift shop can carry the flagship line plus 2 Chic for fashion accessories; a children's boutique adds Cupcakes & Cartwheels; an upmarket home store reaches for Tozai. The trend-rotation cadence keeps the line from going stale year over year.
The 50-plus-year family ownership matters too — it tells you the company is not chasing quarterly numbers and isn't going to be sold out from under the retailer mid-relationship.
